The Wexner Center for the Arts is providing all university students throughout the state of Ohio free admission until Dec. 31 to an unprecedented exhibition, Transfigurations: Modern Masters from the Wexner Family Collection.

Faculty and students are encouraged to attend this landmark exhibition.

As noted in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, “Given its many strengths, the show has temporarily shifted the artistic center of gravity in Ohio toward the center of the state, at least as far as midcentury modern art is concerned…. (It’s) an experience of a kind that would normally require travel to Chicago, New York or Europe.Transfigurations represents an educational opportunity through which every university student in Ohio can enhance their understanding and appreciation of 20th century cultural history.

Sunday, Sept. 21, marked the opening of an unprecedented exhibition, Transfigurations: Modern Masters from the Wexner Family Collection, featuring an exquisite and in-depth selection of masterworks by Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, and Jean Dubuffet, along with exemplary works by Edgar Degas, Willem de Kooning, and Susan Rothenberg. With its concentrated focus on these virtuoso artists, the Wexner Family Collection is truly incomparable to any other private collection formed over the last 50 years. This will be the first-ever public exhibition of this remarkable collection—and the Wexner Center is the one and only venue where you can intimately experience these timeless treasures. Learn more at wexarts.org/transfigurations.

Comprised almost entirely of figurative work, the show will provide fertile ground for discussions of portraiture, history, identity/gender, and the creative process. We’ve also created a microsite for a deeper dive into the lives and working techniques of the artists represented in this extraordinary exhibition. There, educators will find curriculum resources designed to support their classrooms. Visit the site at wexarts.org/explore.

Wexner Center Director Sherri Geldin notes, “Presenting the exquisitely focused Wexner family collection allows us to offer audiences—especially university students and scholars—an unparalleled look at some of the pioneering artists whose work in the first half of the 20th century transformed the cultural landscape of their time, and continues to resonate in our own. We are so grateful to Leslie and Abigail Wexner for providing this singular opportunity to illuminate the creative continuum between early 20th–century masters and contemporary artistic practice.”
