History & Political Science Alum Speaks at Civil War Roundtable

The Zanesville Times Recorder reports that Ohio University alum Robert W. Sidwell “will discuss the Cheat Mountain Campaign of September 1861 in western Virginia, the first offensive movement of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee,” at the Sept. 22 meeting of the Zanesville Civil War Roundtable.

Sidwell is a native of Malta and a graduate of Crooksville High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in political science/political theory from Ohio University. He received a second master’s degree in U.S. history from Kent State University, where he teaches while researching his doctoral dissertation, titled “Robert E. Lee’s Personal Staff Officers: Sacrificing for a Lost Cause.”

Roundtable meetings are open to anyone with an interest in the American Civil War. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 740-452-1075.
