Both the valedictorian and the salutatorian of Nelsonville-York High School will be coming to Ohio University, writes Athens Messenger reporter Sarah Hawley in a May 21 report.
Valedictorian Jennah Addis will study Biological Sciences-Pre-Medicine in the College of Arts & Sciences, and salutatorian Eli Fox will study mechanical engineering.
For the Nelsonville-York Class of 2014 valedictorian, it was the competition to claim that top spot that was a favorite part of high school.
“My favorite part about high school has probably been competing with (Eli) Fox, honestly,” said valedictorian Jennah Addis. “Because freshman year he was ahead of me. I set my goal my freshman year that I wanted to be valedictorian.”
Addis meet that goal, wrapping up her days at Nelsonville-York with a grade point average of 3.964. Eli Fox will be the Class of 2014 salutatorian with a grade point average of 3.922….
“They’re great leaders in their class. They set very high standards for our school,” said McGee. “The thing that I find the most interesting is that both had full time jobs, essentially, since they were sophomores. I think when they go to college they will have a little bit of a break, more so than they did in high school. But work ethic is very important to them and that is what has gotten them to be where they are and I don’t see any reason why that would change when they go on into college and beyond.”
Addis and Fox are both participants in multiple activities and sports at Nelsonville-York. Addis has been a member of the basketball and volleyball teams, Spanish Club, National Honor Society and prom committee. Fox participated in football, basketball, indoor and outdoor track, prom committee, Spanish Club and National Honor Society.
