Biological Sciences Honors Thesis Presentations, April 16-25

Biological Sciences students present their honors theses April 16-25.

Outstanding College of Arts & Sciences students can earn departmental honors by conducting undergraduate research or projects with faculty mentors, complete with a thesis. Read more about departmental honors.

Dr. Janet Duerr is Director of the Biological Sciences Honors Program. Dr. Soichi Tanda is Director of Studies for the HTC Biological Sciences Program.

Honors Thesis Presentation Schedule

Wednesday, April 16, at 5 p.m. in Irvine 159—Amanda Dunson, Honors Tutorial College Biological Sciences, presents “Regulation of ompA and Its Effect on Shigella Virulence. Her mentor is Dr. Erin Murphy.

Thursday, April 17, at 4 p.m. in Irvine 159—Jessica Howell, Biological Sciences Honors Program, presents “Passerine diversity, richness, and community responses to a rural to urban gradient in southeastern Ohio.” Her mentor is Dr. Donald Miles.

Thursday, April 17, at 5 p.m. in Irvine 159—Samantha Chang, HTC Biological Sciences, presents “p53, Clic, and the JAK/STAT pathways: Investigating the link between cell death and cancer in Drosophila melanogaster.” Her mentor is Dr. Soichi Tanda.

Tuesday, April 22, at noon in Life Sciences Building 201—Amanda Cassidy, Biological Sciences Honors Program, presents “Long term Effects of Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors on C. elegans. Her mentor is Dr. Janet Duerr.

Tuesday, April 22, at 5 p.m. in Irvine 159—Alexandra Spaw, HTC Biological Sciences, presents “Fetal Developmental Anatomy of the Human Cardiovascular and Central Nervous Systems using Lugol’s Iodine Staining and Micro-Computed Tomography.” Her mentor is Dr. Larry Witmer.

Wednesday, April 23, at 5:15 p.m. in Irvine 159—Elizabeth Jensen, Biological Sciences Honors Program, presents “The Effects of Weight Cycling on Cellular Senescence and Aging in C57BL/6J mice.” Her faculty mentor is Ed List.

Thursday, April 24, at 4 p.m. in Irvine 159—Megan Nicol, HTC Biological Sciences, presents “Unraveling the Nexus: Investigating the Regulatory Genetic Networks of Hereditary Ataxias.” Her mentor is  Dr. Lonnie Welch.

Friday, April 25, at 3 p.m. in Irvine 159—Elizabeth Mathias, HTC Biological Sciences, presents on “Exopolysaccharides of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm Matrix.” Her mentor is Dr. Don Holzschu.
