Bice Peruzzi, from the University of Cincinnati, will speak on “Dancing around the grave? Central Apulian funerary practices between the 6th and 3rd century BCE.” at 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Ellis 212.
Peruzzi is a Ph.D. candidate in Classical Archeology writing a dissertation on burial customs in Apulia. She holds a B.A. in Classics from the University of Perugia and an M.A in Classical Archaeologyfrom the University of Padua.
She has done field work in Turkey (Gordion), Greece (Corinth) and especially in Italy (Etruria, Pompeii, and various sites in Southern Italy), according to her webpage. Her professional interests include ancient pottery technology, iconography, the archaeology of southern Italy, Etruscology, funerary ideology, the creation of social identity in ancient societies, and cultural heritage policy.
Her research focuses on grave goods, in order to understand better the local people of Italy and their relationship to the nearby Greek colonists of Southern Italy.
