Ohio University alum Shawna McDonnell ’02, who majored in Actuarial Science in the College of Arts & Sciences Mathematics Department, has joined a Pittsburgh firm, reports City Biz List.
Pittsburgh-based Cowden Associates, Inc., the leading independent actuarial, compensation and employee benefits consulting firm in the tri-state region, has hired Shawna McDonnell as a Consultant, Health and Benefits and Michael Stevens, as an Analyst, Compensation.
Shawna McDonnell, Consultant will have primary responsibilities including plan design evaluation and recommendations, renewal projections, vendor negotiations and developing client strategies.
Shawna brings nine years of experience in the employee benefits consulting field. Previously, Shawna was a Consultant with two national firms where she gained extensive experience in helping clients design and implement innovative solutions for their benefits programs. Her strengths include plan design pricing, underwriting under various funding arrangements, contribution strategy development, vendor management and renewal analysis.
Shawna graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science and a minor in business administration. She holds a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation and is a member of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists (ISCEBS) at both the national and local levels.
