The GSA Limnogeology Division established the student research award in 2004 in honor of Kerry Kelts, a visionary limnogeologist and inspiring teacher. The award of $1,000 is for research related to limnogeology, limnology, or paleolimnology.

Blakeman’s award-winning proposal is on “Carbonate lake deposits in the fluvial Bridger Formation of the Great Green River Basin, Wyoming.” She spent August 2013 working on the freshwater limestones. Her adviser is Dr. Elizabeth Gierlowski-Kordesch, Professor of Geological Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University.
