By Craig A. Meyer, Ph.D.
Associate Coordinator of the Graduate Writing and Research Center
There are times as a graduate student that we all question our writing. There is a new, free Graduate Writing and Research Center in Alden Library (Room 309). The GWRC’s goal is to assist all Ohio University grad students with any type of writing they are working on: theses, dissertations, journal articles, proposals, and so on. Our professional staff of several Ph.D.s, Ph.D. students, and advanced master’s students want to help you.
The GWRC offers face-to-face tutoring sessions for one or two hours, writing groups (which are forming now), organization presentations (looking for insight into conference proposals?), online tutoring (starting in Jan 14), and other services to help you complete your writing.
The GWRC website is slowly being updated to include more sources for research and writing (and if you have something interesting, send it to us at gwrc@ohio.edu.
How do you make an appointment? Go to this site: https://ohio.mywconline.com/ Register with your OHIO email address (but use a different password than your OHIO one). Select the GWRC from the pulldown menu and check out the available times (in white) and click on one to make an appointment.
This academic year is critical for the GWRC because we run out of grant funding in June, so we need you to use our services to demonstrate proof of concept and that grad students USE our service!
PLEASE spread the word, use the service, and keep using it! We hope to be able to hire more tutors to support an increasing demand (and if you’re interested in being a tutor, send me an email at meyerc3@ohio.edu for more details.
This is a service designed for graduate students. While we are connected to the Student Writing Center, we are geared and our tutors are trained for graduate-level writing. We are lucky; OHIO has one of the only graduate writing centers in the country, so let’s keep it around!
Thanks for spreading the word to your fellow graduate students in your departments! And come see us! Alden 309 and “Like” us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
Respectfully,
Craig A. Meyer, PhD
