Columbus Business First reported April 18 that the Ohio Hospital Association has hired Ohio Assistant Secretary of State Scott Borgemenke, an Ohio University alum who earned a bachelor’s in economics, to a newly created role as senior vice president of advocacy.
That means the longtime Republican Party strategist, who was also chief of staff to Secretary of State Jon Husted, will be spearheading the trade group’s support for expanding Medicaid eligibility under the Affordable Care Act. Ohio’s GOP is split on the expansion, with Ohio House Republicans bucking the recommendation to approve it from Gov. John Kasich’s administration….
Borgemenke’s affiliation will be an asset to the organization, spokesman John Palmer said in an email to Columbus Business First, “considering his professional and political background and OHA’s need for leadership to engage many key stakeholders on a variety of health-care issues and policies.”
Husted said in a statement: “He helped make my office more efficient, effective and responsive to the needs of Ohioans. As health care and government have been forced closer together than ever before, people with talents like Scott’s are indispensable in helping business and government speak the same language.”
